Tarot

Tarot is a method of fortune telling by using cards of different kinds. It is a pack of playing cards (commonly 78 in numbers) divided into two parts – Major Arcana and Minor Arcana. In the beginning it was used for entertainment and playing only and its history as a device of telling fortune is not more than 600 years old. Historically, the cards were used in Italy in the fifteen century as a popular card game. The Visconti – Sforza created a deck of Tarot in 1450 that was considered one of earliest and most complete Deck. In modern times, new decks are still developing and some are still unpublished. According to an estimate more than 1200 decks of tarot are available in the market. Among them, The Rider – Waite tarot deck is most popular tarot deck in use. It is also known by some other names like - the Rider-Waite-Smith, Waite-Smith, Waite-Colman Smith or simply the Rider deck. The cards were drawn by illustrator Pamela Colman Smith from the instructions of academic and mystic A. E. Waite, and published by the Rider Company.

In Eighteenth and Nineteenth century, some scholars of the occult came to know the revealing capacities of these cards. They recognized the power of tarot as a tool of spiritual revelation. They combined their attributes with Mesopotamian and Kabbalah iconography. Etteilla was the first person to issue a revised tarot deck specifically designed for occult purposes rather than game playing. In keeping with the belief that tarot cards are derived from the Book of Thoth, Etteilla's tarot contained themes related to ancient Egypt. The 78-card tarot deck used by esotericists has two distinct parts:
The Major Arcana (greater secrets), or trump cards, consists of 22 cards without suits: The Magician, The High Priestess, The Empress, The Emperor, The Hierophant, The Lovers, The Chariot, Strength, The Hermit, Wheel of Fortune, Justice, The Hanged Man, Death, Temperance, The Devil, The Tower, The Star, The Moon, The Sun, Judgement, The World and The Fool.
The Minor Arcana (lesser secrets) consists of 56 cards, divided into four suits of 14 cards each; ten numbered cards and four court cards. The court cards are the King, Queen, Knight and Page/Jack, in each of the four tarot suits. The traditional Italian tarot suits are swords, batons/wands, coins and cups; in modern tarot decks, however, the batons suit is often called wands, rods or staves, while the coins suit is often called pentacles or disks.
The terms "major arcana" and "minor arcana" were first used by Jean Baptiste Pitois (also known as Paul Christian) and are never used in relation to Tarot card games.
The tarot tells us the story of imagery and how it is used for solving the riddles of life. For some man they are not more than some pictures but for a spiritual practitioner each picture tells some story and therefore, they work as a plot for an imaginative and creative mind.
You can call it a projective method of forecasting about an individual just like Rorschach inkblot test or Thematic Apperception Test (TAT). It is a great psychological tool by which a psychologist can infer many things about the psyche of a person and an able cartographer can see many things about you, your abilities and your weakness too but the correct interpretation of all tarot images depends upon an able tarot reader because sometimes a tarot reader projects his/her own feelings while reading tarot card for a person. Since there is no clear cut formula or any key or manual by which a reader could interpret the entire card reading session, it largely depends upon the intuition of a tarot reader.
Tarot is always interpreted by the spreads selected by a tarot reader. They are many and sometimes a cartographer can use many spreads for a single person. To be precise, a spread of tarot means placing of tarot cards or the no. of cards used for cartomancy. There are nine famous spreads that is used by cartographers worldwide – as follows -Healthprose pharmacy
